Changing the Way Kids See

Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is commonly diagnosed in childhood and can worsen over time, increasing the risk of more severe sight conditions later in life. Well-vision professionals are seeing it develop more and more in children.

As myopia progresses, patients become dependent on contact lenses to see or glasses become thicker and heavier. Glasses add functional and cosmetic concerns, and long-term contact use may lead to harmful vision issues later in life, including:

  • Glaucoma
  • Retinal detachment
  • Cataracts
  • Myopic macular degeneration

Dunes Eye Consultants’ Myopia Management Center can help!

  • Enjoy activities without glasses or contacts
  • Protect the health and structure of the eye
  • Reduce the chance of chronic eye problems later in life, including glaucoma and retina degeneration
  • Support academic and athletic performance.

The Brilliant Futures™ Myopia Management program is an innovative suite of services designed to slow – even stop – the progression of nearsightedness in children and protect their future vision. The MiSight® 1 day lenses are the first and only contact lenses that are FDA-approved for slowing the progression of myopia when prescribed for children 8–12 years old.

The Myopia Management Center at Dunes Eye Consultants is the only clinic in the upper Midwest awarded this partnership.

The Brilliant Futures Myopia Management program includes:

  •  An annual supply of MiSight® 1 day daily disposable lenses
  •  Office visits outlines for the entire year
  •  Online support tools
  •  A convenient, helpful app with your child’s program details

Research has uncovered the mechanisms that cause myopia to progress in kids and the significant risks to their future vision health. Dunes Eye Consultants uses research, science and the most advanced technology to halt myopia progression in almost every case.

How We Do It

  • The Brilliant Futures™ Myopia Management Program (MiSight® 1 day lenses) – CooperVision’s comprehensive, FDA-approved myopia management system that includes daily disposable contacts, office visits, A-scan measurements and clinical support
  • Corneal reshaping (orthokeratology) – Specialized contact lenses that gently reshape the cornea when worn overnight
  • Distance centered multifocal contacts – Like standard soft contacts, these are used by patients with limited amounts of astigmatism
  • Atropine – Medicated drops or ointment applied once daily that can slow myopia progression, which can be successful with young patients
  • Multifocal glasses – Children with eye positioning issues (esophoria) or patients who cannot successfully use a contact lens may respond to this treatment
